Interview with Aerin Lauder, Founder and Creative Director of AERIN

In the spirit of our new collaboration launching just in time for Mother's Day, what is the best piece of advice your Mother gave you, and what have you passed down to your own children?

My mother always tells me, “You only have one chance to be a mother. Be the best you can be.” I think that’s one of the most valuable lessons to live by. My two sons will always come first and family is so valuable. I hope that my children will continue to value and embrace that idea as they grow up.

Similar to the AERIN scents, our bags are inspired by Pam's various travels, what is your dream country to visit?

A destination that I never get tired of visiting is the Mediterranean. It is the most magical place with beautiful views, delicious food and incredible culture. The number one place currently on my bucket list is India. I hope to be able to visit soon and discover its endless inspiration.

One of Pam's earliest style Icons was her Grandmother. Your Grandmother was such an inspirational businesswoman and style icon. What is one thing she instilled in you that you implement today at AERIN?  

 My grandmother always talked about the importance of being authentic. She said that if you’re passionate and true, success will come. To me, there is no better advice. I have valued this idea since I was a young girl.

What are three things that you always have in your bag and can’t live without?

I always have AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner, sunglasses and my iPhone.

Most adventurous thing you’ve done as the creative force and Founder of AERIN?

When I first started AERIN, we launched with 5 fragrances. My grandmother, Estée, always believed in wardrobe of fragrances, which was very inspiring to me. This is something that is not typically done in the beauty industry and was quite impactful for the brand.

How would you define yourself in three words?

Passionate, honest and thoughtful.

Favorite piece of clothing you own?

Black Prada pants and a floral silk blouse from Erdem or Giambattista Valli.

 How do you personally define beauty?

Natural and effortless.

 Best gift you’ve ever received?

I love receiving gifts that feel thoughtful and meaningful. One of my favorite things to receive is a beautiful picture frame that holds a special memory. Especially for Mother’s Day, I love receiving a frame that reminds me of memories with my two boys.
